Renowned photographer Gurudath Kamath passes away

Udupi: Senior and well-known photographer Gurudath Kamath passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Kamath, who had been unwell for some days, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.
A self-trained commercial photographer, Kamath made significant contributions to the photography community in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. His expertise in capturing Udupi Sri Krishna deity with 365 different decorations was highly admired, especially during the Paryaya festival, where his work brought added splendor. He meticulously documented the Paryaya tenure of Sri Shiroor Math from 2010 to 2012, sharing daily updates through a dedicated website.
In addition to photography, Kamath was an avid traveler and trekker. He organized several Karnataka State Level Treks under YHAI in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He also shared his knowledge by teaching photography courses at Manipal’s Architecture College, MIT, and the Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration.
Kamath’s contributions extended to Kannada cinema, where he worked as an associate cinematographer. His death is a major loss to the local photography community and beyond, leaving a lasting impact that will be remembered for years.
