Mangaluru CCB Operation: Five arrested for selling MDMA, 70 grams seized

Mangaluru: In a significant crackdown, the Mangaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested five individuals involved in the illegal sale and distribution of MDMA, a prohibited narcotic substance.

The accused have been identified as Abdul Shakir (24)from Bengre, Manjeshwar, Kasaragod district; Hassan Ashir (34) from Kunjathur, Manjeshwar; Riyaz A.K. (31) from Korangad, Kannur district; Mohammed Naushad (22) from Pavoor, Varkadi village, Kasaragod; and Yaseen Imraz alias Imbu (35) from Kunjathur, Manjeshwar, Kasaragod district, Kerala.

The arrests were made based on a tip-off about the sale of MDMA to the public and students in Mangaluru city. The operation was carried out near Nethilapadavu, under the jurisdiction of the Konaje police station.

During the operation, the police seized 70 grams of MDMA, valued at Rs 3,50,000, along with five mobile phones, Rs 1,460 in cash, and a digital weighing scale. The total worth of the seized items is estimated to be around Rs 4,25,500.

According to the police, the accused were involved in purchasing MDMA from Bengaluru and other locations with the intention of selling it in Karnataka and Kerala. They targeted both the general public and students. The investigation has revealed that more individuals are part of this drug trafficking network, and further arrests are expected.

Among the accused, Hassan Ashir has a history of criminal activity, with a previous case registered against him at Manjeshwar police station for assault and drug-related offenses. Yaseen Imraz, another key accused, has two cases registered against him related to drug trafficking, one at Manjeshwar police station and another at Hebbal police station in Bengaluru.

The operation was led by CCB ACP Manoj Kumar Nayak, with Police Inspectors Shyam Sundar H.M., PSI Sharanappa Bhandari, and the CCB team.

A case has been registered at the Konaje police station, and further investigation is underway to trace others involved in the narcotics trade.
