Mumtaz Ali missing case: FIR filed against six persons, including woman, alleges blackmail

Mangaluru: Six individuals, including a woman, have been named in an FIR in connection with the missing case of businessman BM Mumtaz Ali.
The accused allegedly engaged in blackmail and defamatory actions, falsely linking Ali to an illicit relationship with the woman, the FIR states.
The accused have been identified as Rehmat, Abdul Sattar, Shafi Mustafa, Shoaib, and Siraj.
According to the complaint, they extorted Rs 50 lakh from Ali and later demanded more money, threatening to defame him further.
Ali’s brother filed the complaint, alleging that these individuals not only spread defamatory rumors but also blackmailed Ali, leading him to take the drastic step of disappearing.
The FIR has been registered under charges of defamation, blackmail, and abetment to suicide. The police investigation is ongoing.

- 3:00 AM: Ali leaves his house in his car.
- 3:20 AM: Ali’s car collides with a bus near MCF.
- 4:00 AM: Ali sends a voice message to his family stating, “I won’t return.”
- 4:40 AM: Alarmed by the message, his family begins searching for him.
- 7:00 AM: Ali’s car is found near Kuloor Bridge.
- 7:30 AM: Search operations in the river begin.
- 6:15 PM: Search efforts are temporarily halted due to rain.
- 7:00 PM: Search resumes after the rain subsides.
