Mangaluru: Mumtaz Ali case — Three, including prime accused, arrested

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru CCB police have arrested three individuals, including a woman, on Tuesday (October 08) in connection with the suicide case of businessman B M Mumtaz Ali.
The arrested include Ayisha alias Rehmat, the prime accused (A1), her husband Shoaib, the fifth accused (A5) in the case, and Siraj.
Following Ali’s disappearance Rehmat had reportedly fled to Kerala. She was apprehended near Kalladka, Bantwal, police said.
The police have now launched an operation to arrest Abdul Sattar, who is considered the mastermind (A2) behind the crime.
Mumtaz Ali who was the brother of former MLA Mohiuddin Bava was reported missing on Sunday morning. A search operation was launched after Mumtaz Ali’s brand-new BMW car was found near the Koolur Bridge. Rescuers discovered the remains of Mumtaz Ali, the brother of former MLA Mohiuddin Bava, under the Kuloor Bridge on Monday.
According to reports, the accused allegedly blackmailed Mumtaz Ali for money. They reportedly honey-trapped him and demanded money in return.
An FIR was earlier registered against six individuals at Kavoor police station regarding this incident. According to the complaint, they extorted Rs 50 lakh from Ali and later demanded more money, threatening to defame him further.
