PTI, Oct 14, 2024, 11:35 AM IST

A tragic accident occurred on the Belthangady national highway at Bambil, where a car lost control and fell into an areca nut plantation on Monday morning (October 14).

In the incident, the driver sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Mangalore.

Three people were traveling in the car, including Bhagirathi (58), a resident of Kodiyal Bailu, who unfortunately lost her life. The driver, Roopesh (40), suffered severe injuries and is being treated, while his wife, Suchitra (33), sustained minor injuries.

The incident happened around 4:30 AM when a car, coming from the direction of Punjalakatte, lost control at a turn near the Bambil mosque and rolled into the plantation.

Bhagirathi, a resident of Kodialbail in Mangalore, was traveling with her daughter Suchitra and son-in-law Roopesh while returning from Tumakur after the Dussehra holidays.

This particular turn in Bambil has seen numerous accidents in the past, leading to fatalities. Locals have raised concerns that the frequent accidents are due to poorly designed roadworks.

Melkar Traffic Sub-Inspector Sutesh visited the accident site and has registered the case
