Mangaluru: Mohammad Manik Hussain, the Bangladeshi citizen arrested at Mangaluru International Airport for attempting to travel to Dubai with a fake Indian passport, is undergoing intense questioning by the Bajpe police. However, police have reported that they have not yet received substantial information from him.

Manik has been placed in police custody for a week, during which the authorities will attempt to extract all the necessary information. The investigation revealed that he traveled from Chennai to Mangaluru, then proceeded to Moodbidri and finally to Udupi.

Police are also trying to determine if Manik has connections with other Bangladeshi nationals in the Commissionerate or district police limits. They are hopeful of gathering significant clues from these inquiries.

Further Investigation in Konaje

Meanwhile, some workers possessing Aadhaar cards from Bihar were questioned in the Konaje police station jurisdiction. However, their documents were found to be in order, and the authorities issued them certain instructions.

Lack of Checks at Key Locations

Every day, hundreds of migrant workers from other states arrive at Mangaluru’s bus and railway stations carrying large amounts of luggage. However, no thorough checks or inquiries are being conducted to verify their identities, origins, or reasons for being in the city. This absence of scrutiny raises concerns about the potential for more illegal immigrants entering the region undetected.

Vigilance by Drivers Urged

Many of these individuals speak Hindi and other languages that locals find difficult to understand. Due to the improper pronunciation of local place names, bus drivers, conductors, and auto-rickshaw drivers are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals to the police. This could help monitor and curb the entry of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh or other countries.

Migrants Working in Agriculture

In addition to the industrial and fishing sectors, many of these Hindi-speaking individuals are now being spotted in agricultural work in rural areas. Local residents’ reluctance to engage in such work has allowed these migrants to fill the labor gap. However, no proper checks are being conducted to verify their identities or backgrounds.
