Rain Alert: Rainfall predicted in 13 districts of Karnataka till October 21

Yellow Alert Issued for the Next Two Days; Heavy Rains Expected in Bengaluru for Three Days

Bengaluru: The state is experiencing intense rains, with the weather department forecasting heavy rainfall in 13 districts, including Udupi and Uttara Kannada, by Sunday.

A shear zone is active in the southern interior regions, which is expected to bring widespread rainfall till October 22. Coastal Karnataka and parts of northern interior Karnataka are likely to receive rain till October 22 as well.

The districts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Chitradurga, Davangere, and Tumakuru are under a yellow alert till October 21 due to the forecast of heavy rainfall.

In Bengaluru, moderate rainfall is expected until October 21, according to the weather department. The coastal regions of Karnataka are also expected to experience winds reaching up to 55 km/h, and fishermen have been advised to remain cautious.

Rain in Bengaluru Today

On Sunday, October 20, Bengaluru is likely to receive rain. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected in some parts of Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Davangere, Ballari, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, and Bengaluru Rural districts. Light to moderate rainfall is likely in other northern interior districts as well.

What is a Shear Zone?

A shear zone is a weather phenomenon where moisture is lifted into the atmosphere, leading to cloud formation and subsequently rainfall. It is a common atmospheric process, also referred to as an upper-air trough. This process occurs regularly in many regions, according to meteorological experts.
