Chittapur: A man killed his mother after a heated argument over her recent visit to another village.

The deceased has been identified as Devakamma Doddabeerappa Pujari (72), and the accused is her son, Jatteppa Doddabeerappa Pujari (34).

According to police reports, Devakamma had visited Lakshmipurwadi village a few days ago and returned to Rajolla on Saturday morning. Angered by her visit, Jatteppa confronted his mother, questioning why she went and who would take care of his meals and clothing in her absence.

During the argument, he attacked her with a wooden stick. In fear, Devakamma ran out of the house but slipped and fell in the mud near their home. Jatteppa allegedly continued to assault her with the stick, leading to her death.

Jatteppa had been married 12 years ago to a woman from Handarki village, and the couple had two sons. However, due to his harassment, his wife had left him and moved back to her parental home with the children. Since then, Jatteppa and his mother were living together, with Devakamma cooking and taking care of household chores for her son, informed Shahabad DYSP Shankargouda Patil.

Crime PSI Chandramappa and his team visited the scene, conducted an investigation, and took Jatteppa into custody. He has been arrested and placed under judicial custody. A case has been registered at the Chittapur police station.
