Udupi: The Udupi Principal Civil and JMFC Court has granted conditional bail to an accused who fraudulently gained special privileges at the Sri Krishna Matha by impersonating a high-ranking government official.

The incident occurred when the accused, Uday Kumar, allegedly contacted Nagraj, the Diwan of Sri Krishna Matha, introducing himself as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He requested special arrangements for himself and his family during their visit to the Matha for darshan. Upon his arrival at the Matha on October 10, he was provided with all the facilities typically reserved for senior government officials. Kumar arrived in a vehicle with “Government of India” written in red on the bonnet and “Army” on the rear glass.

However, suspicion arose after the Diwan conducted a check on the PMO’s official website and discovered that Uday Kumar had provided false information. Realizing that he had been deceived, the Diwan lodged a complaint with the local police station, accusing Kumar of impersonating a government official and misleading the Matha authorities.

Following the legal proceedings, Uday Kumar surrendered to the court, and his legal representative, advocate Cherkady Akhil B. Hegde, argued for bail.
