Mangaluru: The by-election for the Dakshina Kannada Local Authorities’ constituency of the Legislative Council is set to take place today, October 21. All necessary arrangements have been completed to ensure a smooth voting process.

On Sunday, polling staff and materials were dispatched to various polling booths across the district as part of the mustering process. The Election Officer and District Commissioner, Mullai Muhilan, visited the mustering centers to oversee the arrangements and provide guidance.

The by-election sees four candidates in the fray: Kishore B.R. (BJP), Raju Poojary (Congress), Anwar Sadat S. (Social Democratic Party of India), and Dinakar Ullal (Independent).

Prohibitory orders have been imposed in a 100-meter radius around the polling booths, banning public gatherings, commercial activities, and crowd formation. A total of 540 police personnel have been deployed in Dakshina Kannada, and 328 in Udupi, to ensure security during the polling process.

The counting of votes will take place on October 24 at St. Aloysius Pre-University College in Mangaluru.

The constituency covers both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, with a total of 392 polling booths and 6,032 voters. The electorate primarily consists of elected members from gram panchayats, urban local bodies, as well as MLAs and MPs from the region.
