As part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association, the “Silver Sports Fest – 2024” was held on Tuesday at the Ajjarkad District Sports Stadium.

Addressing the gathering, Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Vidyakumari highlighted the immense effort behind news reporting, saying, “When we read the newspaper in the morning, we realize the hard work that goes into producing it. Today, the newspaper industry has become highly competitive, and there is pressure to deliver news quickly. Fearless journalism is the need of the hour. Despite these challenges, journalists must participate in activities like sports to relieve stress and achieve peace of mind. The journalist teams in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are very active compared to other districts.”

Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Dr. Avinash Shetty, also praised journalists for their dedication, emphasizing the need for them to take care of their health. He added, “Journalism is a powerful medium. People should develop the habit of reading newspapers, and journalists should dedicate at least 30 minutes a day to sports activities.”

Other dignitaries present included District Athletics Association President Hariprasad Rai, Udupi Municipal Commissioner Rayappa, MAHE Sports Division Secretary Vinod Nayak, businessman Anand Kunder, and Assistant Director of the Sports Department, Dr. Roshan Kumar Shetty.

During the event, retiring Municipal Commissioner Rayappa was honored for his service.

The event was presided over by the President of the District Working Journalists’ Association, Rajesh Shetty Alevoor. Umesh Marpalli proposed the vote of thanks, and Rajesh K.C. compered the event.
