Kaup police arrest absconding criminal at Kannur airport

A man absconding abroad after securing bail in a criminal case, was arrested by Kaup police on October 22 at Kannur Airport in Kerala.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ashmath Ali (35).

Ali had been accused in 2019 of unnatural sexual acts and blackmail, following a complaint filed at the Kaup Police Station. After being granted bail by the Udupi 2nd CJM and JMFC Court on September 6, 2019, he fled the country.

Authorities had issued 18 arrest warrants against him during this time. The police received information about his arrival at Kannur Mattanur Airport on October 21, leading to his arrest the following day.
