Mangaluru: After achieving a commendable 92.12% pass rate and securing the second position in Karnataka for the 2023-24 SSLC results, Dakshina Kannada district is now determined to claim the top spot. To achieve this, the Education Department has introduced a new program, based on a ‘Data-Driven Formula.’
Dakshina Kannada has a total of 525 schools with 28,612 students in Class 10. Among these, the department identified 4,742 students who were lagging academically. To bridge this gap, a data-based program has been initiated, aiming to help these students reach par with their peers.
In Bantwal zone, 1,052 students have been identified as slow learners, while Beltangady has 650, Mangaluru North has 773, Mangaluru South 1,064, Moodabidri 342, Puttur 627, and Sullia 234.
Under this program, each slow-learning student has been assigned to a specific teacher who provides them additional support in challenging subjects. The focus is on boosting their confidence and creating an enjoyable learning environment at school.
Special classes are conducted daily, with one hour dedicated each morning to these students. Digital resources such as the DIKSHA app and e-learning tools are utilized to enhance lessons, and teachers have been given subject-specific training to effectively teach these students.
Plans are also underway to provide online training via studio sessions for slow-learning students, as well as for those residing in hostels.
The School Education Department shared that, within just two months of implementing the Data-Driven Formula, approximately 1,200 of the 4,742 identified students have shown significant academic improvement.
