Mangaluru: An event titled ‘Ashoka Jan-Mana,’ organized by Rai Estates Education and Charitable Trust, is set to take place on November 2 from 9 AM onwards at the Kombettu Junior College grounds in Puttur, MLA Ashok Kumar Rai announced at a press conference.
Celebrating its 12th year, the event plans to distribute clothing to around 75,000 individuals, with sarees for women and bed sheets for children and men. Additionally, a community lunch has been arranged for the attendees. A ‘Goodu Deepa’ (traditional lamp) competition will also be held, with approximately 500 participants already registered. The competition offers Rs 10,000 as the first prize, Rs 7,500 for the second, and Rs 5,000 for the third-place winners, he stated.
“Cannot Abandon My Faith,” Says Ashok Kumar Rai
Responding to a question about his participation in a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) event, Rai stated, “As a Hindu, I attended the VHP program as a mark of respect after being invited by their leaders. I cannot abandon my faith, but I will also refrain from opposing any other religion.”
He further added that there is a strong wave of support for the Congress party across the country, and since he has been given an opportunity by the party, he has no intention of leaving it.
Addressing concerns about the Kambala in Bengaluru, Rai assured that it would not be canceled for any reason. The Chief Minister has already given his approval for the event. A formal approval from the Maharani is awaited. He added that the Kambala will likely be held in February or March.
