Bengaluru: In a tragic turn of events, acclaimed Sandalwood director Guruprasad (52), known for his work in films like Matha and Eddelu Manjunatha, was found dead on Sunday, November 3, reports said.
According to reports, Guruprasad was discovered hanging in his apartment in Madanayakanahalli, North Bengaluru. It is suspected that financial distress and harassment by lenders may be a cause for the extreme step.
Police were informed by neighbors, who noticed a foul odor emanating from his apartment.
Guruprasad had been residing in this apartment for the past eight months. Recently, he had entered a second marriage, which added to his personal life headlines. However, his ongoing struggle with financial issues reportedly took a toll on his mental health.
The director’s contributions to Kannada cinema are significant, having directed several notable films, including Matha, Eddelu Manjunatha, Director’s Special, Eradane Sala, and Ranganayaka. Guruprasad was not only a director but also featured as an actor in various films. His most recent project, Adema, was still in the filming phase.
Recent Complaint Filed Against Guruprasad
Earlier, a complaint was filed against Guruprasad at the Jayanagar Police Station. Lakshmikant, the owner of the Total Kannada store in Jayanagar, accused the director of failing to pay for Kannada books and CDs he had purchased back in 2019.
Guruprasad reportedly bought a substantial number of Kannada literature and cinema-related books and CDs, allegedly requesting them at a discounted rate for his students. He was supposed to pay Rs 65,000 for five sets of 75 books, each set priced at Rs 13,000. However, despite multiple reminders, he neither paid for the items nor responded to calls. Lakshmikant’s complaint further claimed that Guruprasad had even changed his residential address to avoid repayment.
