Mangaluru: In a strong statement condemning the recent attack on Edneer Matha’s Sri Sachidananda Bharathi Teertha Swamiji’s vehicle in Kasaragod, Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta has urged Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to take immediate action against the perpetrators. The incident, which occurred in Bommikanam on Sunday evening, has raised concerns over the safety of religious figures and the law and order situation in the region.

In his letter to the Kerala Chief Minister, Chowta emphasized the gravity of the situation. “The incident highlights the state of law and order in the region where such nefarious activities are being undertaken without the fear of being reprimanded,” he wrote, noting that such attacks create an atmosphere of fear and are “indicative of a deteriorating law enforcement scenario.”

Chowta further stated, “As a Member of Parliament of Mangalore (Dakshina Kannada), which shares much more than just the border with Kasaragod, and as a person who holds Swamiji in great reverence, I urge you to direct the state machinery to immediately take action against those who have been involved in this attack.”

Expressing concern for the safety of spiritual leaders, Chowta questioned the security of ordinary Hindus in Kerala if a prominent religious figure could be attacked in such a manner. “Else, it only highlights the state of a common Hindu in the state of Kerala, where a revered seer has no assurance of safety and security,” he remarked, calling for robust action to send a clear message to those seeking to disrupt peace and harmony.

The MP has requested that the Kerala government thoroughly investigate the incident, identify those behind it, and impose strict penalties on the attackers and their backers. Chowta reiterated that this incident not only impacts the safety of Edneer Swamiji but also undermines religious harmony and peaceful coexistence in the region, a matter that calls for decisive government intervention.
