Udupi: A group of tourists was allegedly assaulted by locals at Hoode Beach after questioning a firecracker thrown at their vehicle.

According to the police complaint, the incident reportedly took place on the evening of November 2, when Ashwini Shivakumar and family from Nittur, Udupi, visited the beach. Locals threw firecrackers twice at their parked car, prompting Rakesh Markala, a companion, to confront them.

In response, around 10-12 individuals, including identified locals Bhoja, Ravi, Santosh, and Chetan, allegedly attacked Rakesh, Raghav, Santosh, and Pradeep with lethal intent. The tourists reported that a gold chain worth Rs 4.5 lakh (4 pavan) and a gold earring weighing about 2 grams were also stolen in the attack.

Ashwini has since filed a complaint at the Malpe Police Station, stating that she and her companions faced physical assault. No arrests have been made, and the family has warned of protests outside the station if justice is delayed.
