MLC Ivan D’Souza defends CM Siddaramaiah’s Lokayukta appearance, criticizes BJP’s ‘Drama’ claims

MLC Ivan D’Souza criticized BJP leaders for mocking Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent appearance before the Lokayukta investigator, as directed by the High Court, calling it an insult to both the Lokayukta and democracy.
In a press statement on Thursday, Ivan remarked that despite BJP’s claims that “everyone is equal before the law,” they have now dismissed Siddaramaiah’s compliance as mere “drama,” accusing him of attempting to secure a ‘B Report’ from the Lokayukta. He questioned why the BJP had accepted the High Court’s order if they had such doubts.
Defending Siddaramaiah’s integrity, Ivan added, “Siddaramaiah has an unblemished record in his political career, which is why he has the courage to appear openly.” He compared this to incidents in 2013 when former Chief Minister Yeddyurappa did not initially resign amid Lokayukta proceedings until a charge sheet was filed. Ivan also highlighted that BJP leader Vijayendra faces 14 ED cases but has not responded to these allegations.
Addressing BJP’s criticism of the state’s guarantee schemes, Ivan noted, “We have provided Rs. 53,000 crore in direct benefits to the people, and this has clearly irked the BJP.” He dismissed the opposition’s claim that the Chief Minister fears the Lokayukta, suggesting they instead “learn to value democracy.”
He further observed that the opposition, while focused on smear campaigns amid the three upcoming by-elections, shows little regard for public welfare. “Instead of working constructively as a check on the government, they’ve resorted to baseless accusations, stirring issues like the Wakf controversy to serve their interests,” Ivan stated, urging the BJP to abandon divisive tactics and focus on responsible opposition.
