Udupi: Crane accident at Indrali Railway Overpass construction site

Udupi: A construction crane that was lifting girders at the Indrali railway overpass toppled late Thursday night, narrowly avoiding a major accident.

Given the significant weight of the materials, the steel bridge construction involves continuous girder assembly and welding work. Two cranes were used to handle the massive girders.

One of the cranes reportedly failed under the load, causing its rope to snap, and the crane overturned in the middle of the road. Fortunately, no workers were in the immediate area, preventing any injuries.

Another crane on-site was promptly deployed to remove the toppled crane, allowing the construction to resume without further delay. Since the incident occurred at night, there was minimal risk to the public.

However, local residents highlighted the importance of taking strict safety measures during daytime operations, as the area is frequently used by both pedestrians and vehicles and has a nearby petrol pump that requires extra caution.
