A private bus having a route license was fined Rs 5,000 for violating the rules and transporting passengers from the central railway station.
Members of the Dakshina Kannada Taxi and Maxicab Association halted the bus, which was transporting passengers from the central railway station, at Thokkottu and brought the matter to the attention of local police.
Stressing that unauthorized private vehicles and buses operating as rentals are creating challenges for taxi and maxi cab drivers, the association members urged authorities to take action against such practices.
