Karkala: Sculptor Krishna Naik has been remanded to seven days of police custody in connection with allegations of installing a fake Parashurama statue at the Parashurama Theme Park in Bailoor.
The Kerala police apprehended Naik and presented him before the Karkala Taluk Court on Monday, November 11, where the court ordered police custody for 6 days.
Earlier, Krishna Naik had applied for anticipatory bail in the Udupi Additional District and Sessions Court, but the request was denied. Following this, the police intensified their search operations and located Naik hiding in Kozhikode, Kerala, where he was taken into custody.
Krishna Naik, operating under the firm ‘Krish Art World,’ was contracted to create a bronze statue of Parashurama for the theme park, with a project fund of Rs 1.25 crore provided by the Udupi Nirmithi Kendra.
However, Krishna Shetty of Nallur filed a complaint at the Karkala Town Police Station in June, alleging that Naik had defrauded the government by installing a counterfeit statue instead of the promised bronze structure.
