In a crackdown on drunk driving among school vehicle drivers, more than 120 drivers have been booked, and their licenses are recommended for suspension by the transport department.
Joint Commissioner of Traffic Police M.N. Anucheth warned that criminal cases would be filed against drivers found driving under the influence or without a valid driving license.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Anucheth revealed that approximately 20,000 school vehicles have been inspected over the past 10 months. Among these, 120 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol. The transport department has recommended to suspend their licenses.
The traffic police are continuing strict operations against school vehicle drivers caught inebriated while on duty.
Notices have been issued to school administrations about the incidents, but compliance has been inadequate. Anucheth stated that moving forward, the transport department would also be advised to revoke the permits of school vehicles if effective action is not taken.
