A tragic series of accidents on the Yelahanka flyover in Bengaluru late Monday night led to the deaths of two drivers after a BMTC bus collided with a stationary cement mixer truck and an Innova car.
The deceased have been identified as Jagadeesh (40), the Innova driver, and Kuldeep Kumar (42), the cement mixer truck driver. The BMTC bus driver, identified as Puttaswamy, sustained injuries to his hands and legs and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
The Innova car’s owner was returning from Dubai and Jagadeesh was on his way to the airport to pick him up on Monday night. At this time, the cement mixer truck traveling towards Devanahalli collided with the Innova car from the rear. The two drivers thus pulled over to the roadside and were engaged in an argument about the collision.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., a speeding BMTC bus traveling on the RR Nagar to Airport route lost control and crashed into the rear of the cement mixer truck. The truck moved ahead and both Jagadeesh and Kuldeep got stuck between their vehicles.
Kuldeep Kumar died on the spot due to severe injuries, while Jagadeesh was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later in the night. Police said that the low visibility may have led to the accident. There was one passenger on board the BMTC bus at the time of the accident, and the front of the bus was significantly damaged.
Yelahanka Traffic Police have registered a case.
