Father and two sons drown in Ghataprabha river; search operations underway

A tragic incident unfolded near Benakanahalli in Hukkeri taluk, Belagavi district, where a father and his two sons drowned in the backwaters of the Ghataprabha River while fishing. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, and search operations have been ongoing since Monday morning (Nov 18).
The victims have been identified as Lakshman Ram Ambali (49) and his sons, Ramesh (14) and Yallappa (12), all residents of Benakanahalli.
On Sunday evening, Lakshman and his sons parked their motorcycle near the Ghataprabha River bridge and went down to the riverbank to fish. However, when they failed to return home by Monday morning, their worried family members alerted the police.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Yamakana Mardi police have launched a search operation to recover the bodies. Efforts are ongoing to locate them in the river’s backwaters.
