Vitla: A 40-year-old man from Peruvai succumbed to a venomous snakebite on Sunday night at Mameshwara in Manglapadavu, near Vitla.
The deceased has been identified as Suresh Naik, a resident of Peruvai. Known for his alcohol addiction, Suresh had been staying at a friend’s house in Mameshwara instead of his home in Peruvai.
On hearing cries from a neighbouring house about the presence of a snake, Suresh rushed to the spot and attempted to catch the snake with his bare hands. Unfortunately, the snake bit him during the act. Ignoring the need for medical attention, Suresh reportedly consumed alcohol and went to sleep, which led to his untimely death.
