Karkala/Hebri: An investigation has been launched into the encounter of Naxal leader Vikram Gowda at Peethabail near Kabbinale. The case has been registered at the Hebri Police Station, with Karkala DySP leading the probe.
The encounter took place in the dense forests of the Western Ghats, 8 km uphill from Kabbinale. Police sources stated that the investigation would cover multiple aspects, including the operation’s execution, exchange of fire, and possible injuries to others involved.
Escape of other Naxals
According to DGP (Internal Security) Pranav Mohanty, three to four Naxals were present during the operation, and they escaped into the forest. Their whereabouts remain a point of intrigue as ANF personnel comb through the Western Ghats’ remotest areas.
Search Intensifies in Western Ghats
The search operation has been intensified along the forest fringes in the Western Ghats, with ANF teams and sniffer dogs actively scouring the area. Searches are underway across Karkala, Hebri, Kundapura, and border regions of Dakshina Kannada district, senior officials said. Surveillance has also been ramped up around Kabbinale, with continuous patrolling by the ANF.
On Thursday, Komala, a judge from Karkala PCJ Court, visited the encounter site at Pithubail in Nadpalu village along with police officials to inspect the location.
Continued Combing Operations
ANF teams conducted combing operations across Nadpalu, Tingalamakki, Mudradi’s Kabbinale, and nearby areas on Thursday morning. The search efforts involved drones and police sniffer dogs. Security remains tight around the site.
