Kalaburagi: In a commendable operation, Kalaburagi police reunited a kidnapped newborn boy with his mother within 36 hours of the abduction from GIMS Hospital. The joyful reunion brought relief to the distressed mother, Kasturi, and praise for the police department.
The newborn, the second child of Ramakrishna Sagar and Kasturi from Chittapur taluk, was abducted on Monday afternoon by two women disguised as nurses. They had approached the neonatal care ward, claiming the baby needed emergency treatment, and fled with the newborn.
Following the incident, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil visited GIMS on Tuesday, offering solace to the mother and assuring swift recovery of the baby.
Swift Action by Police
Under the direction of City Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa Dhage and ACB Boothe Gowda, four special teams were formed to investigate the case. Acting on a tip-off, police searched the residence of a woman Kairun, where they successfully located the kidnapped baby and returned him to Kasturi.
Arrests and Investigation
Three women involved in the abduction—identified as Umera, Fatima, and Nasrin from the MSK Mill area—were arrested. Police revealed that the women had sold the baby to Kairun for Rs 50,000. However, Kairun has managed to escape, and efforts are underway to locate her.
Leaders Praise Police Efforts
The operation drew appreciation from Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, District In-Charge Minister Priyanka Kharge, and City Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa Dhage, who lauded the police for their swift and efficient response.
