Mangaluru: The maintenance work of the Mangala swimming pool, under the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), has been nearly completed after two months. However, it will take another two weeks before it is reopened to the public, as the water-filling and filtration processes are still underway.
The swimming pool was closed for maintenance on August 16, as part of its annual upkeep routine. During this period, access to the pool was restricted to the public and athletes. The repair work included sealing water leaks, replacing broken tiles, and installing interlocking systems around the pool.
Heavy rains during the maintenance period caused delays, especially in water refilling and tile installation, which pushed back the timeline of the project. The pool, measuring 50 meters in length and 15 meters in width, with a depth ranging from 4 to 16 feet, is located near Ladyhill and has been in operation for nearly three decades.
Popular Facility for Swimmers
The Mangala swimming pool is a significant facility in Mangaluru, attracting approximately 500 daily users, including 200 athletes. During summer, the pool sees over 1,300 participants in training camps, particularly students. Separate batches are conducted for women, children, and female students.
With the repair work now complete and the final steps underway, the pool is expected to resume operations soon, much to the relief of regular swimmers and trainees.
