High court adjourns Pilikula Kambala case to January, No event this month

The Karnataka government has informed the High Court that the traditional buffalo racing event, Kambala, will not be held in December at Pilikula Nisargadhama, a biodiversity park in Mangaluru.
This clarification came during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), raising concerns about the potential impact of the event on the animals at the biodiversity park. The PIL was heard by a division bench comprising Chief Justice N.V. Anjaria and Justice K.V. Aravind on Wednesday.
During the proceedings, government counsel Niloufer Akbar stated that a committee has been formed to study whether the event could harm the animals at the park. She also informed the court that the committee has not yet submitted its report and assured that the Kambala event would not be conducted at Pilikula in December.
Acknowledging this submission, the court recorded the statement and adjourned the hearing to January 10.
