Udupi district is facing a severe shortage of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), leaving rickshaw drivers and other CNG vehicle owners struggling to make ends meet. Long queues have become a daily sight at CNG stations as drivers await limited supplies.
In response to the crisis, MP Kota Srinivas Poojary met Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to seek immediate intervention. He urged the minister to address the shortage and ensure uninterrupted supply.
Currently, Udupi district requires 21,000 kg of CNG daily, but only 14,000 kg is being supplied. Despite having eight operational CNG stations, the shortage has significantly impacted drivers and vehicle owners. MP Poojary requested the approval of additional CNG stations and urged directives to the concerned companies to meet the district’s full demand.
Minister Hardeep Singh Puri assured immediate action and instructed officials to address the issue promptly.
Uttara Kannada MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri also accompanied MP Poojary during the meeting.
