Geethartha Chinthane 120: Present state not permanent; Accepting change erases sorrow

The term ‘Janadhipa’ (ಜನಾಧಿಪಾ) carries the meaning of one who causes sorrow to soldiers. Similarly, ‘Adhi’ refers to someone who induces mental anguish. These individuals, like everything else, are impermanent.

“The body perishes eventually. Why should it perish now?” To this question, Krishna’s response is, “The body’s destruction is part of my will. Thinking that we are killing it now is a misunderstanding.” How do we know the body has a timeline? We hear of ‘apamrityu’ (untimely death). This is our perspective, not God’s. The exam paper is pre-set. It doesn’t change because we fail to study comprehensively.

Nothing happens without divine intent. Not knowing what lies ahead leads to sorrow. The root cause of sorrow is ignorance of past events and the mistaken belief that the present state is permanent. Once we realize that every state changes, sorrow disappears. Be it good or bad, nothing is eternal. Youth and childhood must be understood as transitions rather than fixed stages.

You may have heard the saying, “Tena Vina Trinamapi Na Chalati” (Not even a blade of grass moves without His will). Revealing God’s intent is our duty. Thus, even though Krishna’s words to Arjuna are personal, they serve as answers to the doubts of humanity. This is Vyasa’s divine intent.
