Mangalore Varsity: Degree students stuck as physical marks cards unavailable

Mangaluru: Students pursuing degree courses under Mangalore University are facing challenges due to the unavailability of physical marks cards. Instead, they are being issued digital marks cards riddled with errors, causing significant inconvenience.

After the introduction of the Unified University & College Management System (UUCMS) in 2021-22, semester-wise marks are recorded digitally. Students can access their digital marks cards through UUCMS login. However, technical issues with the software have led to discrepancies in marks, names, and other details, leaving students frustrated.

Some students, who had cleared semesters with high marks, found errors like failing grades or missing marks when downloading their final marks cards. These inaccuracies have created uncertainty about their academic and professional future.

Physical Marks Cards Approved

Acknowledging the difficulties, Speaker U.T. Khader recently chaired a meeting with higher education officials in Bengaluru. The University decided to issue physical marks cards to students who require them alongside digital ones.

Mangalore University has initiated the process to rectify data in UUCMS and plans to issue physical marks cards soon. However, delays persist due to incorrect data such as names, marks, and addresses, requiring careful verification.

Uniform Format Raises Concerns

The digital marks card format under UUCMS has replaced the earlier unique formats followed by different universities. Students have raised concerns that digital marks cards in this format are not being accepted in some instances.

“Over the past two years, we lacked approval to print marks cards. After the recent meeting in Bengaluru, we have now resumed the process. The university is currently verifying the data downloaded from UUCMS to ensure accuracy before issuing physical marks cards,” said H. Devendrappa, Registrar (Evaluation), Mangalore University.
