Tokkottu: One killed, another injured in road mishap

Ullal: A tragic accident occurred near the Tokkottu Overbridge on National Highway 66, where a speeding jeep collided with a scooter, killing the rider and seriously injuring the pillion rider.

The deceased has been identified as Arun Kumar (43), a resident of Sampigedadi in Harekal village. The injured pillion rider, Hemavathi from Ranipur, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Arun Kumar, employed as a waiter at Wine and Dine Bar and Restaurant in Tokkottu Kapikad, was returning home after work on Saturday night. He was riding his scooter, with Hemavathi, a sanitation staff member at the bar, seated as the pillion. While traveling on the service road of the highway, the scooter was hit head-on by a high-speed jeep. Arun sustained critical injuries and succumbed on the way to the hospital.

The Ullal South Traffic Police have registered a case against the jeep driver, identified as Shashank from Ullalbail.

Arun is survived by his parents, wife, and two children. He was the sole breadwinner of the family and had been taking care of his ailing parents.
