Mangaluru: Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming International Kite Festival, scheduled to take place on January 18 and 19 at Tannirbhavi Beach. After a hiatus due to funding issues and the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was successfully revived in 2023, drawing significant public attention.
The festival will be conducted in collaboration with Team Mangalore. Representatives from over 10 countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Greece, Sweden, Ukraine, Thailand, Vietnam, Estonia, and the United Kingdom, are expected to participate.
Last year’s edition saw 13 participants from eight countries. Additionally, nearly 20 delegates from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Baroda, and Kerala are expected to take part this year.
In January, Gujarat hosts an international-level kite festival for about ten days. Some foreign participants from Gujarat’s event are expected to extend their visit to Mangaluru for the festival.
Special Attractions
The Stunt Kite, which is flown using two strings, is set to be one of the highlights this year. Stunt Kites, popular in the UK, France, and Thailand, will be showcased with participation from expert teams. Plans are also being made to feature the Revolution Kite, which uses four strings and is known for its aerial maneuvers and stunts.
“This year’s festival is scheduled for January 18 and 19 at Tannirbhavi Beach. We expect participants from various countries to join,” said Sarvesh Rao, Founder of Team Mangalore.
