A crane moving from Adyapadi towards Kenjar overturned into a 20-foot deep drain along State Highway 67 on Tuesday evening after the operator lost control of the vehicle at the exit gate of Mangalore Airport.

The operator, who was trapped under the crane, sustained serious injuries in the mishap. After nearly half an hour of operation, he was rescued and rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.

As per reports, the crane lost control in a sloped area near the airport, collided with a roadside guardrail, and fell into a drain.

Another crane was used to lift the trapped operator. The rescue operation took about 30 minutes, and an ambulance arrived after a delay of about 30 minutes.

The operator is said to be in critical condition.
