Gold, Saffron worth Rs 1.15 Crore seized at Mangalore International Airport

Mangalore International Airport Customs officials have seized gold and saffron valuing over Rs 1.15 crore, which were being smuggled illegally from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Based on profiling, the officials intercepted three passenger, residents of Kasaragod and Honnavar, who had arrived on Air India and Indigo flights from Dubai and Abu Dhabi between December 8 and 11
The passengers were flagged for suspicious movements and following a thorough search found gold in paste form concealed inside his underwear, gold in two oval shaped objects secreted in his body. Additionally, gold in powder form was found concealed under the bottom of a checked in carton box
In total, 1,429 grams of gold jewelry of 24K purity, assorted gold jewelry of 18K purity weighing 48 grams, and 478 grams of saffron were seized by the Customs authorities.
