Amid escalating factional disputes within the Karnataka BJP, state party president BY Vijayendra visited Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sending a clear message to his critics. However, his silence on internal disagreements within the party has raised curiosity.
During his 15-minute meeting with the Prime Minister, Vijayendra presented a booklet highlighting the organizational achievements during his first year as state president. Discussions reportedly centered on future organizational activities and strategies, with Modi offering guidance on strengthening party operations.
No dramatic developments
Vijayendra’s meeting with the Prime Minister sparked discussions within the BJP circles, particularly in Belagavi, where the party is focused on upcoming challenges. However, the meeting did not result in any significant developments to fuel speculation. Vijayendra securing a direct audience with the Prime Minister, bypassing other leaders like JP Nadda and Amit Shah, is being interpreted as a sign of his growing influence.
Speaking to Udayavani, Vijayendra clarified that the meeting with Modi was solely to seek blessings and guidance on completing a year as state president.
“I did not use this platform to discuss internal party matters,” he asserted.
Extended stay in Delhi
Following his meeting with the Prime Minister, Vijayendra remained in Delhi. Speculation is rife that he may meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss factional issues within the Karnataka BJP, particularly concerning Basangouda Patil Yatnal and other internal conflicts. He is also expected to seek time with BJP National President JP Nadda.
Due to his engagements in Delhi, Vijayendra will not attend the ongoing Karnataka Legislative Assembly session on Thursday. He is expected to return to Bengaluru later that night and subsequently travel to Shikaripura.
