Mangaluru: Guidelines announced for New Year celebrations

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate has issued a set of guidelines for celebrations on New Year’s eve, prioritizing public safety and order.

Key Guidelines:

  • Permission Mandatory: Hotels, clubs, resorts, and other venues must obtain prior approval from the Commissioner’s office by 5:00 PM on December 23, 2024.
  • Event Timings: Celebrations must conclude by midnight. Extensions will not be permitted.
  • Strict Adherence: Organizers must follow license conditions strictly. Violators will face legal action.
  • Health Measures: Any government-issued health advisories must be complied with.
  • Alcohol Sales: Pre-approved permissions from the Excise Department are necessary for alcohol sales and distribution.
  • Prohibited Activities:
    • Smoking and alcohol consumption in public places such as bus stands, parks, and railway stations.
    • Indecent behavior or violence by students or youth.
    • Unauthorized loud music, including DJs, must comply with Noise Pollution Rules, 2000.
    • Obscene dances, gambling, and similar activities are banned.
  • Security Measures:
    • Fire safety equipment, medical emergency vehicles, and parking arrangements must be ensured by organizers.
    • Special squads will patrol for drunk driving, public disturbances, and vehicle stunts like wheeling or drag racing.

Public cooperation is sought to ensure a safe and peaceful New Year celebration, police added.
