Udupi: MP Kota Srinivas Poojary on Friday, December 20 demanded Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara to clarify the recent arrest of CT Ravi.
Kota highlighted that he had previously urged the government to act against individuals who raised pro-Pakistan slogans. The government had stated that action would be taken based on forensic evidence, but no steps have been taken so far, he said.
Addressing the allegations against CT Ravi, Kota pointed out that Ravi has repeatedly clarified that he did not use any obscene language. “All records and proceedings under the Speaker’s custody should be reviewed to ascertain the truth. Action should only be taken if allegations are proven,” he remarked.
Kota accused the authorities of mistreating CT Ravi by dragging him around the Suvarna Soudha and displaying “hooliganism.” He questioned whether such treatment of opposition leaders aligns with the principles of democracy.
“CT Ravi was paraded like a terrorist, taken from one police station to another, and even sustained injuries to his head. The Home Minister must clarify these incidents,” he demanded.
Kota further stated that the arrest of a legislator requires the Speaker’s permission. He criticized the state government, claiming that such actions bring neither honor nor dignity to the administration.
The assembly exists to discuss matters of public interest. Personal criticisms or comments have no place there. Hebbalkar’s reaction, without verifying the facts, is inappropriate. The truth must emerge in a way that does not hurt anyone’s sentiments, he added.
