Mangaluru: A 14-year-old tigress, named Rani, gave birth to two cubs at the Pilikula Biological Park, on the night of December 20. The mother and the cubs are healthy, the zoo officials said.
Rani had previously delivered a record five healthy cubs in 2016 and three cubs in 2021.
With these new additions, the tiger population at Pilikula Zoo has now increased to 10, comprising 4 males and 4 females.
According to H. Jayaprakash Bhandari, the director of Pilikula Biological Park, the genders of the newborn cubs will be identified after two months.
Rani was brought to Pilikula under an animal exchange program from Bannerghatta, where a male tiger was sent in exchange.
