A male leopard, aged around 2-3 years, was captured in a trap cage set by the Forest Department in Annurukeri village, located in the buffer zone of Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Gundlupet taluk.
The leopard was trapped late Tuesday night on farmland belonging to a farmer named Rangashetty. Upon discovering the leopard, the landowner informed the forest officials, who promptly arrived at the spot and initiated necessary procedures.
Relief for Locals:
For months, the leopard had been sighted frequently in and around the villages of Annurukeri and Kodahalli, preying on goats and livestock. Fear of the animal had deterred farmers from visiting their fields at night. Following repeated requests from the distressed farmers, the Forest Department set up a trap cage, successfully capturing the leopard.
The capture has brought relief to the farmers and residents of the area, who can now tend to their fields without fear of leopard attacks.
