Karkala: In a daring daylight theft, a man posing as a customer stole gold ornaments worth lakhs from a jewellery shop in Rathabeedi, Karkala, on Friday, December 27.
The incident took place at Pranav Jewellery, owned by Prakash Vasant Jadhav. At the time of the theft, Prakash had gone to a temple, leaving his wife in charge of the shop.
Around 1:30 PM, a man entered the shop pretending to inquire about purchasing gold ornaments and engaged in conversation in Kannada. When informed that the owner was not present, he expressed his intention to wait.
During this time, the thief picked up a 26-gram gold ring and jhumka set kept in a display tray. When the shopkeeper’s wife noticed and tried to retrieve the items, the thief swiftly escaped with the ornaments.
The incident was caught on the shop’s CCTV camera, which shows the suspect arriving on a scooter before committing the crime.
Karkala town police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the accused. Investigations are underway.
