Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has stated that while there will be no hindrance to New Year celebrations, anyone engaging in misbehavior or violating the law will face strict action. He emphasized that those who break the law will be dealt with severely, urging the public to celebrate responsibly and maintain law and order during the festivities.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Shivakumar mentioned that over 10,000 cameras would be installed across Bengaluru to monitor movements, ensuring everyone adheres to the law during the celebrations. He urged citizens to uphold the dignity and decorum of the state while celebrating the New Year.
In response to the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the state government has declared a seven-day mourning period, during which only government events will be restricted. However, there will be no interference in private events, allowing individuals to celebrate the New Year in their own way, he added.
The police have been directed to issue guidelines regarding New Year celebrations, including permissible timings. While some timing extensions may be allowed, law enforcement will ensure that no one violates the law during the celebrations. Local authorities and police will also provide guidelines to business owners to ensure smooth operations, he said.
