Pathanamthitta (Kerala): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday alleged that the Constitution and the fundamental values of the country are “under threat from right-wing forces”.

Accusing the BJP-led Union government of unleashing the Sangh Parivar, he claimed that those entrusted with safeguarding the country’s fundamental values are now leading efforts to “destroy” them.

The veteran Left leader also accused the RSS and the BJP of attempting to “rewrite the history of the country” to obscure the fact that they had played no role in the national freedom movement.

The Chief Minister launched this scathing attack against the Sangh Parivar and the Union government during a party programme held here.

“Our country is going through a peculiar phase. Many of the fundamental values of the country are being challenged. Those entrusted with safeguarding these values are now leading efforts to destroy them. This is the most unfortunate situation the country is facing,” Vijayan said.

Referring to a recent discussion in Parliament, the Chief Minister alleged that the Constitution itself is being challenged, with the Sangh Parivar making every effort to undermine it.

He accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of vehemently insulting B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, during the discussion.

Alleging that the Sangh Parivar has never accepted the formation of such a Constitution, he further claimed that the RSS had objected to it soon after it was drafted.

“Our Constitution was formed by incorporating the lofty values of the national movement, which the RSS and the Sangh Parivar could not accept,” the Chief Minister said.

Linking the RSS and Jamaat-e-Islami, he accused both organisations of advocating for the formation of a religious state.

Vijayan also alleged that the Centre is extending all possible support to communal forces to “undermine the secular values of the country”.
