Davanagere: KPCC General Secretary D. Basavaraj on Thursday, January 2, dismissed allegations against Minister Priyank Kharge in contractor Sachin’s suicide case, calling them politically motivated and baseless.
Addressing a press meet, he stated that Priyank Kharge’s name is not mentioned in the death note left by Sachin, and the accusations are fueled by him being a Dalit and a staunch opponent of RSS and BJP ideologies.
Sachin, who died by suicide, was not a contractor. To become a contractor in the North Karnataka region, one must register at the office of the Chief Superintendent of the Public Works and Panchayat Raj Department in Dharwad. Sachin had not registered anywhere, which confirms that he was not a contractor, he clarified.
Stating that BJP keeps demanding for a CBI investigation in every case that arises in the states, Basavaraj mockingly questioned whether the CBI is a family relative of the party. Further he stated that the BJP ruled the state for nine years but did not hand over even a single case to the CBI
He pointed out that while a POCSO case against former Chief Minister Yediyurappa is being heard in the High Court, Vijayendra is continuing as the state president whereas BJP is conspiring to tarnish Priyank Kharge’s reputation to cover up the ongoing internal disputes between Vijayendra and Yatnal.
He insisted that Priyank Kharge should not resign under any circumstances and urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar not to accept any resignation.
He alleged that the BJP has never shown any support for Dalits. Basavaraj accused the BJP of preparing a “toolkit” to tarnish Kharge’s image, stressing there is no need for her resignation. Party members K.M. Manjunath, Liyakhat Ali, and others were present at the press meet.
