Gangolli: A protest was held outside the Gangolli Gram Panchayat office on Friday, led by the Hindu Hitarakshana Samiti, opposing the alleged offering of namaz during the swearing-in ceremony of the Panchayat Vice President. The protesters demanded strict action against those involved, citing the “misuse of government premises for religious activities.”
Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole criticized the Congress party, accusing it of “compromising its principles for political gain.” He alleged that while Congress advocates for banning organizations like SDPI on a national level, it forms “unethical alliances” with such groups for electoral success. “This shows Congress prioritizes power over principles,” he remarked.
The MLA also pointed out a surge in cattle theft cases in the Byndoor constituency over the past year and a half, suggesting a possible link to the same groups. He accused Congress of facilitating SDPI’s activities by collaborating with them to win the Gangolli Gram Panchayat elections. “The society will not tolerate appeasement politics for the sake of power,” he added.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to Kundapura Tahsildar Mallikarjun and Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Dr. Ravi Kumar Hukkeri, urging immediate action against those responsible.
Gangolli Gram Panchayat PDO Umashankar, Revenue Inspector Raghavendra Devadiga, Byndoor Police Circle Inspector Savitrateja, and Gangolli Police Sub-Inspector Harish R were present at the scene.
Prominent figures at the protest included BJP Byndoor Mandal President Deepak Kumar Shetty, Thrasi Mahashakti Kendra President Ravindra Kharvi, former Taluk Panchayat member Surendra Kharvi, and other Gram Panchayat members and leaders from Hindu organizations.
