Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday, January 4, urging him to establish a Sainik School and a military base in the region.
In his memorandum, Capt. Chowta highlighted that setting up a Sainik School and a military base in Dakshina Kannada would inspire the youth to serve the nation and enhance the region’s contribution to national defence. He noted that the district’s reputation for world-class educational institutions would be further strengthened by the establishment of a Sainik School.
He also paid homage to former Defence Minister George Fernandes and local heroes such as Captain Pranjal and Commander George Martis, who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Chowta urged the Defence Ministry to undertake projects in Mangaluru that honour their legacy.
During the meeting, Capt. Chowta sought guidance from the Defence Minister on defence-related projects that could be implemented in Dakshina Kannada. As a token of appreciation, he presented Rajnath Singh with a memento featuring Kambala, symbolizing the coastal region’s rich cultural heritage.
