Bengaluru: Two women riding on a two-wheeler died after being crushed under the wheels of a BBMP garbage truck near Thannisandra in Hennur Traffic Police Station limits on Saturday morning.
The driver of the truck has been apprehended by the police.
The deceased, Nigar Sultana (31) and Nigar Irfana (36), were sisters and were residents of Govindapura. The truck driver, identified as Gadilinga (35), fled the scene initially but was later arrested.
The incident occurred around 10 AM when the sisters were riding a two-wheeler from Govindapura toward Hegde Nagar via Thannisandra. As the car ahead of them came to a sudden halt, the sisters swerved to the right, only to be hit by the speeding garbage truck from behind.
Both women fell off the bike, and the truck’s rear wheels ran over them, killing them instantly. The driver abandoned the truck and fled the scene. Police have registered a case at Hennur Traffic Police Station and are investigating further.
On their way to buy birthday presents:
Speaking about the tragedy, Imran Syed, the husband of Irfana, shared that Irfana was on her way to shop for their son’s birthday along with her sister Nigar Sultana. Nigar Sultana is survived by four daughters, while Irfana leaves behind three daughters and a son.
In his statement, Syed alleged that the truck driver was under the influence of alcohol, which led to the accident. He demanded strict action against those responsible for the incident.
