Mangaluru: The Tannirbhavi Blue Flag Beach, selected under the ‘One Nation-One Destination’ initiative, has completed its developmental works. The tender process for its maintenance over the next 10 years is in its final stage, according to Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan.

Speaking at a press conference in the city on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the tender for managing another beach at Tannirbhavi would soon be called.

The development of the Blue Flag Beach has been funded with Rs 7.59 crore from the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change and Rs 7 crore from Mangaluru Smart City Limited. Several facilities have been provided as part of the initiative, he said.

Maintenance contractors will be required to pay Rs 50 lakh in the first year, escalating to Rs 2 crore by the 10th year. They must also adhere to the entry fees set by the District Tourism Committee, the Deputy Commissioner added.

Additionally, the first beach at Tannirbhavi, whose maintenance contract has expired, will soon undergo a fresh tendering process, he informed.
