Mangaluru: MP Brijesh Chowta has written to the General Manager of Chennai Southern Railway Division, requesting the extension of the Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction Gomateshwara Express (Train No. 16575/76) to Mangaluru Central.
The request has been a longstanding demand of railway passengers and the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee.
The MP highlighted that the necessary infrastructure at Mangaluru Central Station, such as new platforms and pit lines, has been significantly improved since the train service began. These enhancements make the station well-equipped to handle additional train services.
Furthermore, the extension of the Gomateshwara Express to Mangaluru Central would provide greater convenience to the local public and better connectivity to Bengaluru. The train, featuring a Vistadome coach, would also attract tourists, the MP mentioned in his letter.
The MP also pointed out that work is nearing completion on the extension of the Mangalore Central-Kacheguda Express to Murudeshwar and the addition of a stabling line at Mangaluru Central. These developments are expected to further boost the region’s railway infrastructure.
